In 2022, Prince William showed his deep affection for Wales after receiving a new title following the passing of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. He rushed to be by her side at Balmoral in Scotland in September 2022, along with other members of the royal family, as doctors grew concerned for her health. Sadly, the palace confirmed the queen’s death at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022.
After the queen’s passing, Prince Charles announced that his eldest son would now be known as the Prince of Wales, a title reserved for the heir apparent. Additionally, William also inherited the title of Duke of Cornwall, previously held by his father before ascending to the throne.
During his first speech as king, Charles expressed his pride in passing on the Scottish titles to William, stating, “He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities, which I have undertaken for more than five decades. Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty. With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the center ground where vital help can be given.”
This significant moment marked a new chapter for Prince William as he embraced his role as the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall, embodying a sense of duty and dedication to serving his country. With his wife, Catherine, by his side, the new Prince and Princess of Wales are set to continue the legacy of leadership and inspiration within the royal family.
