Prince William’s private sentiments about Prince Andrew’s behavior have been exposed in a new book by royal reporter Russell Myers. According to Myers, in his book “William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story,” William expressed his belief that Andrew’s actions were “a stain on all the family” and advocated for his uncle to be removed from royal life immediately.
The controversy surrounding Prince Andrew escalated after his disastrous 2019 interview on “Newsnight,” where he failed to show remorse for his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The fallout from the interview was seen as catastrophic, with William fearing lasting damage to the monarchy’s credibility.
As second in line to the throne at the time, William felt the monarchy was in a state of emergency and urged both his father, Prince Charles, and his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, to permanently remove Andrew from public life. He believed that allowing Andrew to remain connected to the family posed a significant threat to the institution.
Further allegations against Andrew only strengthened William’s resolve to keep his uncle at a distance. Palace insiders revealed that Charles supported William’s stance, seeing no benefit in protecting Andrew given the ongoing scandal. William’s six-word assessment of Andrew’s behavior as a “stain on all of the family” reflected his deep concern for the royal family’s reputation.
The book also sheds light on a reported clash between William and Charles over how to handle the Andrew situation. Despite Andrew’s denials of wrongdoing, he was stripped of military titles and royal patronages in 2022 and has since withdrawn from public duties.
In a joint statement, William and his wife Catherine expressed their distress over the ongoing revelations involving Andrew and emphasized their support for the victims. Myers’ book aims to provide an intimate look at the couple, delving into their personal lives and the challenges they face in their public roles.
“William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story” is set to be released on February 26 and promises to offer unprecedented insights into the lives of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Published by Ebury, Penguin Random House, the biography aims to showcase the love, resilience, and journey of William and Catherine as they navigate their royal responsibilities in a changing world.
