Being a talented ski racer is impressive, but being able to excel in both skiing and piano playing is truly remarkable.
11-year-old Konnor Shan from Queenstown recently showcased his piano skills at the 14th Hong Kong International Piano Invitation Competition in Auckland, where he was the only South Islander among 26 participants in his age group.
Starting to play the piano at the age of 7, Konnor quickly progressed and passed his Grade 5 piano exam at just 10 years old. Despite his musical talent, skiing remains his true passion, with Konnor competing at a high level in giant slalom and slalom events.
When asked why he prefers skiing, Konnor mentioned the freedom of skiing with friends and the ability to explore wherever he wants on the slopes.
While Konnor’s mother, Jasmine, admits to worrying about his skiing adventures, she is proud of his achievements both on the slopes and in music. In addition to skiing and piano, Konnor also enjoys playing soccer, basketball, guitar, and even showcased his creativity at the 2020 Lego Masters event with a Rubik’s cube-solving robot.
