2025 is the year when the stars will align in a spectacular display.

The Quadrantid meteor shower, known for its dazzling annual performance, will reach its peak overnight from Thursday to Friday. This event will treat observers to bright “fireballs” and up to 120 shooting stars per hour.

Quadrantids are famous for their bright fireball meteors, which are larger explosions of light and color that can be seen for a longer duration than a typical meteor streak.

Considered one of the most intense meteor showers of the year, the Quadrantids are a celestial spectacle not to be missed, as reported by Science Alert.

Although the Quadrantid meteor shower typically occurs around the same time each year, factors such as moonlight, weather conditions, and a limited viewing window of six hours may hinder observers from enjoying this cosmic event to the fullest.

However, moonlight conditions are expected to be favorable this Friday, with the moon at only 11% full. This dim sky will provide the perfect backdrop for witnessing shooting stars, as noted by the American Meteor Society.

Observers can anticipate seeing between 110 and 120 meteors per hour if they look up at the sky during the six-hour window of the meteor shower from Thursday to Friday.

New Yorkers may have a better chance of witnessing the Quadrantids, as they are best observed in the northern hemisphere. The peak activity is expected around 12:45 a.m. EST on Friday, according to the meteor society.

Quadrantids are known for bright "fireball" meteors, or larger explosions of light and color that can be seen longer than an average meteor streak.
