Qualcomm is gearing up to unveil its latest flagship processor in September, with Xiaomi leading the charge as the first smartphone manufacturer to feature the new chipset in its upcoming 16 series.
During an earnings call, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon confirmed the extended partnership with Xiaomi, stating that they will be “the first OEM to launch with our next Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.” This announcement paves the way for Xiaomi’s 16, 16 Pro, and 16 Ultra models to debut with the highly anticipated Elite 2 chipset.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to focus heavily on AI capabilities, with Amon mentioning that on-device agentic AI use cases will continue to expand and revolutionize the mobile industry.
While Xiaomi fans in the UK and Europe may have to wait for a global launch, other OEMs like Asus and Honor could potentially capitalize on the Elite 2 chipset for their devices in the interim.
On the horizon, Qualcomm is also rumored to be working on a new Snapdragon 8 chipset, potentially named Snapdragon 8s Elite or Snapdragon 8 Plus. This chipset aims to offer flagship-level performance at more affordable prices, catering to the mid-range market segment.
Leaker Digital Chat Station suggests that the SM8845 chipset could feature similar performance to the Elite 2 while maintaining a lower price point. Devices powered by this chipset are already confirmed for brands like Oppo, Honor, and Vivo, with some models boasting massive 8000mAh batteries.
With Qualcomm’s continued innovation in the mobile chipset space, the upcoming releases are sure to shake up the industry and offer consumers a wide range of options across different price points.
