Quinta Brunson, the star, showrunner, and creator of “Abbott Elementary,” is already looking towards her next big project. In a recent interview with Bustle, the Emmy-winner expressed her excitement about moving away from her role as elementary school teacher Janine Teagues. Brunson mentioned that she and several cast members are eager to explore new roles beyond their current characters.
Despite the success of “Abbott Elementary,” Brunson acknowledged that the show’s demanding shooting schedule can limit opportunities for the cast to take on other projects. She revealed that she is currently reviewing scripts in search of the perfect TV show or movie that aligns with her creative vision.
“I’m waiting for that moment when a script crosses my desk and I just know it’s the perfect fit,” Brunson shared. “The success of ‘Abbott’ has opened doors for me, and I want to use that platform to help bring other people’s projects to life.”
Looking ahead, Brunson expressed her desire to play “against type” in her next role, stepping away from the familiar characters she has portrayed. She emphasized her interest in challenging herself as an actor and exploring new territories in her career.
“Playing against type is always intriguing to me,” Brunson explained. “As of now, I’m known for my role as ‘Janine’ the teacher, but I’m excited to break away from that mold and explore different facets of my craft.”
“Abbott Elementary,” which premiered on ABC in 2021 and has garnered four Emmy awards, features a talented ensemble cast including Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and William Stanford Davis.
As Quinta Brunson embarks on her next creative journey, fans eagerly anticipate seeing her shine in new and diverse roles, showcasing her versatility and talent beyond the halls of Abbott Elementary.
