The answer hinges on who holds the reins of power in the US government. In Trump’s case, his approach to preparing for this scenario has involved the ousting of the head of the FBI’s National Security division. But fear not, there’s also a National Security division nestled within the Department of Justice.
Trump reportedly demoted the acting chief of the National Security Division at the Department of Justice simply because that individual was too slow to replace President Biden’s portrait with Trump’s after the inauguration. This was evidently enough to merit a demotion. It’s worth noting, however, that the FBI does maintain its own dedicated counter-terrorism division.
