Rachel Zegler, the lead in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Snow White,” has candidly discussed facing criticism over her social media posts, some of which reportedly raised concerns among Disney executives prior to the film’s premiere.

After being cast as a non-white actor in the remake, Zegler encountered initial criticism. In an interview with i-D magazine, she admitted that some of the reactions to her casting were “truly alarming” and had a significant impact on her mental health. Zegler shared that her therapist played a crucial role in helping her navigate through the challenging times.

She expressed gratitude for the support she received from her therapist and acknowledged the importance of seeking medication for her anxiety, describing it as a transformative experience that allowed her to regain confidence in herself.

Zegler stressed that she refuses to adopt a “victim mindset” and highlighted the importance of taking control of one’s own narrative. She also mentioned that her activism and outspokenness on social issues have sparked controversy, particularly in the lead-up to the release of “Snow White,” a film that garnered attention for being one of the most expensive films ever made and faced challenges at the box office post-release.

Her social media posts, including statements like “always remember, free palestine” and “Fuck Donald Trump,” stirred controversy and drew attention from producers and critics alike.

Despite facing backlash, Zegler remains committed to using her platform to advocate for causes she believes in. She referenced actor Hannah Einbinder’s comments on social issues, emphasizing the importance of having a “responsibility” to speak out.

Zegler reiterated her unwavering support for various causes and stressed that her activism is driven by compassion and a desire to make a positive impact. She remains resolute in her beliefs, stating that she will not let criticisms deter her from standing up for what she believes is right.

“My heart doesn’t have a fence around it, and if that is considered my downfall? There are worse things,” Zegler concluded.
