Top gaming streamer Rachell Hofstetter, famously known as Valkyrae, has recently launched her very own media company called Hihi Studios. The primary focus of Hihi Studios will be to develop and produce intellectual property for graphic novels, TV, and film projects, with a special emphasis on anime content.
Upon its launch, Hihi Studios has secured a co-publishing deal with digital comic book platform GlobalComix. This partnership will involve funding, creative development, and distribution of the studio’s first intellectual property both physically and digitally.
The mission of Hihi Studios is to create a comprehensive experience for its audience by releasing shows, merchandise, and products related to each intellectual property. The company aims to tell stories that reflect the world we live in, utilizing characters, storylines, and themes that resonate with global anime and manga communities. Hihi Studios intends to honor existing culture while also introducing new and unique series inspired by Japanese anime and manga, incorporating fresh perspectives and innovations to create narratives with lasting impact.
Valkyrae co-founded Hihi Studios in partnership with her manager and co-founder Kai Gayoso, along with Gabe Pepe and Madeline McFerren, all from Range Media Partners, who also represent Valkyrae.
Valkyrae is represented by Range Media Partners, WME, Hansen Jacobson Teller & Hoberman, and imPRint.
In an interview with Variety, Valkyrae shared insights into the launch of Hihi Studios. When asked about the company’s name, she explained that she chose Hihi Studios as a nod to her community, as she often greeted her audience by saying “hihi.” The name was selected to be welcoming, easy to remember, and the logo’s symmetry appealed to her.
Regarding the decision to launch her own company rather than partnering with an existing one, Valkyrae expressed her desire to champion her own ideas in a new medium that she has yet to explore. She sees this as a long-term commitment and an opportunity for her community to support her creative endeavors.
While anime will serve as a significant source of inspiration for Hihi Studios projects, Valkyrae mentioned that the company is open to various forms of storytelling, including graphic novels, comic books, and manga.
As for the projects Hihi Studios plans to adapt initially, Valkyrae emphasized the importance of creating narratives that she herself would enjoy as a fan. The company is willing to tackle mature themes such as death and war, aiming to produce stories that resonate with viewers and entertain audiences.
With its focus on anime-inspired content and a commitment to creating compelling narratives, Hihi Studios is poised to make a mark in the world of media and entertainment.
