Arghavan Khosravi: Exploring the Depths of the Subconscious

Arghavan Khosravi, an Iranian artist known for her provocative works addressing censorship and inequality, has always used her art as a tool to confront global issues. Her fragmented pieces, filled with bold colors and delicate motifs, often feature symbols of tension such as chain locks, bound body parts, and swirling flames.

While her art has always reflected her concerns about the world at large, Khosravi’s latest body of work delves deeper into the personal and collective subconscious. This introspective turn comes as a response to the challenging times of the past year, allowing the artist to explore her inner thoughts and emotions through a series of smaller, altar-like pieces. These intimate constructions serve as a way for Khosravi to move inward and let ideas surface without a predetermined destination.

Symbolism and the subconscious have always played a significant role in Khosravi’s work, and her recent pieces are no exception. Many of her artworks feature layers of disparate components, creating surreal scenes filled with flowing hair, bright orbs of light, birds, and patterns inspired by historic Persian architecture and design. Unlike her earlier works that often incorporated windows and doorways, Khosravi’s newer pieces invite the viewer to peer into a new realm from the inside.

Currently, the artist is preparing for an upcoming solo show at Uffner & Liu in New York next year. In the meantime, you can follow her practice on Instagram to stay updated on her latest creations.

Arghavan Khosravi’s art is a reflection of her innermost thoughts and emotions, offering viewers a glimpse into the depths of the subconscious. Through her intricate and thought-provoking pieces, she continues to push boundaries and challenge the status quo, creating a space for dialogue and reflection on the pressing issues of our time.
