Rainstorms Trigger Flash Flood Warnings in Douglas and Elbert Counties

Heavy rainstorms on Thursday led to flash flood warnings in Douglas and Elbert counties, causing significant damage to roads in the area. In Colorado Springs, the ground was swept away under a road leading into a local park.

Residents of Castle Rock, Franktown, and Elizabeth were urged by the National Weather Service to prepare for possible flooding and to avoid driving through flooded areas. Parts of the two counties were under a flash flood warning throughout the afternoon.

Colorado Springs officials shared a video on social media showing North Cheyenne Creek overflowing under a section of North Cheyenne Canyon Road. As a result, both entrances to North Cheyenne Cañon Park were closed for repairs, while Gold Camp Road was shut off to the public but accessible to nearby residents.

Weather forecasts for Friday in Denver predict fog and rain in the morning, with clouds expected to clear by Saturday before returning on Sunday. Fortunately, no local flooding was expected by the National Weather Service on Friday.
