The high-profile trade that transferred Myles Garrett, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, from the Cleveland Browns to the Los Angeles Rams has caused a considerable stir in the league. Although analysts were taken aback, Rams general manager Les Snead disclosed that the groundwork for this move had been laid months earlier.

The chain of events started in March when the Browns rescheduled the deadline for Garrett’s significant option bonus from March 25 to September 2. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Snead shared insights into the behind-the-scenes aspects of the Garrett trade.

“When they made, when Cleveland made the adjustment to his contract, not sure if it was a signal, they made an adjustment,” Snead explained. “I’ve got a good relationship with Andrew [Berry]. Thought I’d just check in. Obviously Myles is a Cleveland Brown. He’s on their Mount Rushmore. So they were a ‘no.’

“But Andrew and I have a good relationship. We like talking about football a good bit. So I would pester him a little bit, probably jokingly at first. Kept doing that, then we began talking a little more seriously about it.”

Snead mentioned that the two sides initially attempted to agree on draft compensation. After the draft, they revisited the discussions with more draft considerations. At one point, the Browns expressed interest in Jared Verse, but the Rams declined. Following numerous discussions in May, Los Angeles and Cleveland reached a compromise.

The entire saga began back in March, when the Browns moved the deadline on Garrett’s hefty option bonus from March 25 to September 2.

The Los Angeles Rams executed one of the off-season’s most significant moves by acquiring seven-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns. This acquisition bolstered an already strong roster, positioning the Rams as leading Super Bowl contenders.

Following the trade, NFL analyst Chris Broussard expressed his opinion on the deal during his appearance on the “First Things First” show on Tuesday.

“Anything else is an absolute failure,” Broussard said. “… You only do this trade and give up future assets, give up a great young player like Jared Verse, to win the Super Bowl.”

Los Angeles was just one game shy of the Super Bowl last season, losing 31-27 to the eventual champions, the Seattle Seahawks, in the NFC Championship Game.
