“The Real Housewives of Potomac” cast member Wendy Osefo and her spouse Eddie Osefo were charged with multiple fraud offenses on Oct. 9 in Carroll County, Maryland. In light of their indictment, Bravo has delayed the premiere of “Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition” from Oct. 14 to Oct. 21. The show includes episodes where a cast member from the “Real Housewives” series swaps lives with a civilian, and the Osefos were originally slated to appear in the first episode. The premiere will now feature Angie Katsanevas from “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” in their place, with the Osefos’ episode postponed.

A representative for Wendy Osefo shared with Variety that, “Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are safely back home with their family and feeling positive. They appreciate the overwhelming concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues. Alongside their legal team, the Osefos anticipate their upcoming court date. Currently, they ask for privacy as they navigate this legal situation and focus on their family.”

TMZ was the first outlet to report on the indictment of the Osefos for insurance fraud. Court documents from Carroll County indicate the couple allegedly fabricated a burglary incident in April 2024, claiming that their home had been broken into and valuables including designer bags and jewelry were taken. They reportedly filed three different insurance claims alleging a theft of $450,000 worth of personal items.

Wendy Osefo is facing 16 charges—seven counts of insurance fraud, eight counts of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and one count of providing a false statement to a police officer. Eddie Osefo faces a total of 18 counts, including one additional count each for insurance fraud and conspiracy.

Investigators quickly expressed skepticism regarding the reported burglary on April 7, 2024. The Osefos were in Jamaica during the alleged crime and stated they returned to find their bedroom and closets disturbed. However, their ADT alarm system failed to activate, and their Ring camera did not capture any activity. Authorities later discovered that several items claimed as stolen had been purchased and refunded to the store prior to the alleged break-in, and Wendy Osefo was seen on social media wearing a ring she claimed was missing from the supposed robbery.

During a news conference on Friday, Carroll County Sheriff James T. DeWees explained the details of the indictment and addressed whether Osefo’s celebrity status played a role in the inquiry, stating, “It doesn’t matter if she’s a reality star or not—we would treat this case with the same seriousness regardless of who is involved.” DeWees commented that he doesn’t watch the show and joked with a reporter about whether or not he was a fan.

State’s Attorney Haven N. Shoemaker Jr. also attended the press briefing, noting that the Osefos are set to appear in court on Nov. 7 to face the charges, with most felonies carrying a potential maximum sentence of 15 years.

Wendy Osefo, affectionately known as “Dr. Wendy” among fans, joined the cast of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” during its fifth season, which launched in August 2020. At that time, she held a position as an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins and frequently appeared as a commentator on CNN. Over the years on the show, she has proudly highlighted her academic achievements, often mentioning her “four degrees.” Bravo even created a tribute to Dr. Wendy on their Instagram in anticipation of the tenth season, which began airing on Oct. 5.

The Osefos have been married since 2011 and have three children. Eddie Osefo, an attorney, is affectionately referred to as “Happy Eddie” by the show’s fans. Wendy is expected to participate in BravoCon in Las Vegas mid-November, though a network representative did not respond to queries regarding her confirmed attendance.

Wendy Osefo is not the first cast member of “Potomac” to encounter legal issues. Original cast member Karen Huger faced arrest for DUI in March 2024, a claim she consistently denied throughout Season 9. She was later convicted in December 2024 and sentenced to up to two years in prison, being released on Sept. 2 after serving a six-month term.
