Real Madrid legend Luis Figo has expressed his opinion on the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, stating that he would not have voted for Vinicius to win the prestigious award. However, the former Portuguese forward believes that the Brazilian star is a deserving candidate for the 2025 Golden Ball.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or was claimed by Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who had an exceptional season for both club and country. Rodri played a pivotal role in City’s successful Premier League campaign and Spain’s EURO 2024 triumph, contributing 10 goals and 14 assists in 56 matches.

Vinicius, on the other hand, had an impressive season with 27 goals and 11 assists in 45 games for Real Madrid and Brazil. Despite winning the UEFA Champions League and LaLiga with Real Madrid, Vinicius fell short as Brazil exited the Copa America in the quarter-finals.

In the current season, Vinicius has continued his fine form with 18 goals and 11 assists in 39 appearances, making him a strong contender for the 2025 Ballon d’Or. Figo, speaking on Iker Casillas’ podcast “Bajo los Palos,” mentioned that while he would have voted for Rodri in 2024, he believes Vinicius deserves the award this year.

Looking ahead to the 2025 Ballon d’Or race, Vinicius faces tough competition from the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Mohamed Salah, and Raphinha. Mbappe has been exceptional in his debut season at Real Madrid, scoring 30 goals and providing four assists in 43 games.

Salah, the Liverpool superstar, has been in sensational form with 32 goals and 22 assists in 43 appearances, leading his team to the top of the Premier League table. Barcelona’s Raphinha has also been outstanding with 27 goals and 20 assists in 42 games, guiding his team to the summit of LaLiga.

With Barcelona and Real Madrid potentially meeting in the Champions League final, and Salah’s Liverpool facing an early exit, the competition for the 2025 Ballon d’Or title is heating up. The award ceremony is scheduled for October 2025, where the winner will be revealed.

In conclusion, the race for the 2025 Ballon d’Or promises to be a thrilling one, with Vinicius Jr and other top players vying for the prestigious accolade. Fans can expect an intense battle among the best footballers in the world as they compete for football’s highest individual honor.
