Reddit’s Emphasis on AI Pays Off in Second-Quarter Earnings
Reddit recently unveiled its second-quarter financial results, showcasing a significant uptick in the company’s AI initiatives.
A notable focus area for Reddit has been the expansion of its advertising business, bolstered by AI-driven marketing tools. The latest figures indicate that the bulk of Reddit’s revenue stems from ads, generating $465 million, accounting for 93% of the total revenue.
The company’s recent efforts include the introduction of two new features for advertisers: Reddit Insights, a tool harnessing the vast pool of posts and comments on the platform to identify trends and provide real-time insights for campaign strategies, and Conversation Summary Add-ons, enabling advertisers to incorporate Reddit user discussions directly into ads, showcasing public sentiments on products or brands.
Furthermore, Reddit witnessed growth in its “other revenue” segment, encompassing its data licensing business involving collaborations with AI providers for data access. This category surged by 24% year-over-year to $35 million, compared to $28.1 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Reddit has solidified content licensing agreements with major AI players like Google and OpenAI, signaling a promising revenue stream with substantial long-term potential.
Another pivotal AI-powered feature is the Reddit Answers tool, launched in December, which offers responses in a conversational format. This tool has attracted 6 million weekly users, a significant increase from the previous quarter’s 1 million users.
In a communication to shareholders, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman emphasized the platform’s efforts to seamlessly integrate the tool into the core search experience, positioning search as a central feature across Reddit.
