Reem Acra’s Fashion Journey Through the Middle East
Reem Acra, a member of Fashion Trust Arabia’s advisory board, has a deep connection to the Middle East. Her annual visits to the region for the organization’s events bring her back to the countries she explored in her youth, describing the experience as “opulent, fabulous, and regal.” With a growing clientele in the region, Acra dedicated her most recent collection to her Middle Eastern supporters.
For her pre-fall collection, Acra aimed to highlight the universality of her designs. In Qatar, where the Fashion Trust Arabia awards were held this year, cultural norms require women to dress modestly. As a result, Acra incorporated modest gowns with subtle menswear elements like sharp collars and waistbands inspired by cummerbunds. The collection featured intricate beaded embellishments, a signature of Acra’s designs.
Lebanon’s humid summers influenced Acra’s choice of fabrics, leading her to create a new version of her popular caftan in a lightweight cloqué material. The caftan, in a dazzling gold hue with crystal embellishments at the chest, is both luxurious and practical, perfect for a quick and easy outfit. Acra even made sure it can be folded and packed in a tote bag, emphasizing its convenience for on-the-go glamour. The caftan was a standout piece at the Fashion Trust awards, where Acra introduced it on the red carpet to rave reviews.
