Remembering Renee Good: A Tragic Loss and a Call for Change

By COLLEEN SLEVIN and TIM SULLIVAN

DENVER (AP) — Renee Good was a woman who loved sparkles and laughter, someone who could make anyone feel special and loved. Her tragic death at the hands of an immigration officer during a federal crackdown in Minneapolis has sparked outrage and calls for change.

Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was described by her family as someone who was slow to anger, quick to love, and quick to care. Her parents and brothers shared with the AP the joy she found in life, their grief at losing her, and their hopes for a more united and compassionate nation.

Settling in Minneapolis

Good, who had recently relocated to Minneapolis from Kansas City, Missouri, was working as a substitute teacher and volunteering in a local school district. She was described as being happy and fulfilled in her new role.

Her family spoke about how quickly they were embraced by the Minneapolis community after her death, a testament to the love and kindness that Good had shown to others.

At her memorial service, a table of glitter was set out in her honor, symbolizing her vibrant personality and the light she brought into the lives of those around her.

An American blend

The Ganger family, to which Good belonged, is described as “a very American blend” with differing political views but a foundation of love and respect for one another. Despite their differences, they hope to inspire others to come together and find common ground.

Good’s death initially sparked controversy and conflicting reports, but her family’s message remains one of unity and understanding. They believe that something good must come out of this tragedy to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

The morning of the shooting

On the day of the shooting, Good was involved in a confrontation with immigration officers during a surge of raids and protests in Minneapolis. The circumstances leading to her death have been a point of contention, but her family is focused on promoting dialogue, understanding, and accountability.

The Ganger family has hired a law firm to investigate Good’s death and explore legal action. They are determined to speak out and hope that their words will lead to meaningful change.

As they navigate their grief and advocate for justice, the Ganger family remains steadfast in their belief that Renee Good’s legacy will be one of love, unity, and positive change.
