Rep. Elise Stefanik Slams Gov. Kathy Hochul Over Medicaid Cuts
Rep. Elise Stefanik, known for her close ties to former President Trump and rumored gubernatorial aspirations in 2026, didn’t hold back in her response to New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s criticism over Medicaid cuts.
Hochul accused Stefanik of endangering her constituents by voting to cut funding for hospitals in her district to please Trump. Stefanik fired back on social media, calling out Hochul for her Medicaid policies that prioritize illegal immigrants over vulnerable New Yorkers.
Stefanik labeled Hochul as the “Worst Governor in America” and criticized the state’s Medicaid program under her watch for being rampant with waste, fraud, and abuse.
Stefanik also highlighted her advocacy for rural hospitals and questioned Hochul’s support for the Democratic nominee for NYC mayor, Zohran Mamdani, who has controversial views on Israel and Palestine.
Stefanik’s strong stance against Hochul and her active role in state politics, including the formation of a new political action committee, Save New York, indicate her serious consideration of running for governor.
Despite the back-and-forth between Stefanik and Hochul, the latter has not issued a full endorsement of Mamdani, leading to further tension between the two political figures.
This dynamic exchange underscores the escalating political climate in New York, with Stefanik positioning herself as a prominent figure in the state’s Republican Party.
