Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin has made quite the promise: a reckoning for those he believes have “unleashed fascism” upon the United States, should his party reclaim power in the future.
During his recent appearance on the Pod Save America podcast, Raskin articulated that the Democratic Party would “not look kindly” on individuals who played a part in facilitating Donald Trump’s resurgence.
He elaborated:
We must engage in a more robust effort of transnational democratic solidarity with democratic governments, movements, and parties worldwide. This is essential to counteract the lawlessness and fascist chaos that has been unleashed upon us.
However, it should be understood that if and when we return to power—and we will—we will not regard favorably those who have enabled authoritarianism within our nation.
This constitutes an assault on our Constitution and our citizens.

Raskin, the progeny of the late Marxist scholar Marcus Raskin, has recently taken a stand against the deportation of gang members to El Salvador, framing it as a “blatant violation of American due process and all of our constitutional values.”
He urged his colleagues to demand that the Trump Administration adhere to all judicial orders while appealing the ones they wish to contest, and to advocate for the return of individuals who were unlawfully transported to El Salvador on that infamous flight filled with alleged “gang bangers.”

The Maryland congressman expressed his dismay over the ongoing criticism directed at activist judges, who he claims are facing illegal threats as they attempt to uphold President Trump’s expansive agenda.
“I particularly call on them today to denounce all violent threats, doxxing, online vilification, and threats against our judges,” he remarked. “This is the Judiciary Committee of the United States, and we should act accordingly.”
