MSNBC’s Joy Reid is reportedly facing the reality of having to take a pay cut as the network’s ratings continue to decline post-2024 election.

According to reports, Reid earns around $3 million per year, a figure that has raised eyebrows given the recent drop in viewership. Some critics argue that there are content creators on platforms like YouTube who garner more engagement than Reid.

A similar fate awaits Reid’s colleague Stephanie Ruhle, who is also expected to see a reduction in her salary.

NEW: MSNBC anchor Joy Reid may have to accept a pay cut to retain her position at the network, as per The Ankler.

Recent reports also suggest that Rachel Maddow had to undergo a $5 million salary reduction.

As per the New York Post:

MSNBC’s Joy Reid and Stephanie Ruhle are reportedly in negotiations to accept reduced salaries in order to continue hosting their shows amidst the network’s cost-cutting measures.

The left-leaning channel, which recently slashed Rachel Maddow’s annual earnings by $5 million from $30 million, is now in talks with Reid and Ruhle for revised contracts at lower pay scales, as per the Ankler newsletter.

Reid, known for hosting the nightly show “The ReidOut” at 8 p.m., is said to be earning $3 million annually, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

Reid, a veteran at the network since 2011 and in prime time since 2020, stirred controversy recently with her comments accusing Republicans of prioritizing Donald Trump over religious values.

The revelation of Reid’s salary sparked surprise among viewers.

$3 million a year for Joy Reid?

That seems excessive. There are numerous individuals who could offer more compelling content on TV at a fraction of that cost.

That $3 million figure is mind-boggling, Collin. Viewers should be rewarded for enduring her show in my opinion.

Who authorized a $3 million salary for Joy Reid?

No wonder the network is facing financial challenges.

MSNBC’s future appears uncertain, with ratings plummeting and no signs of recovery on the horizon.
