OpenAI Co-Founder John Schulman Joins Mira Murati’s Secretive Startup

After departing AI company Anthropic earlier this week following a short five-month stint, OpenAI co-founder John Schulman is reportedly making a move to join former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati’s mysterious new startup, as reported by Fortune.

The specifics of Schulman’s role at the startup remain undisclosed, with Murati maintaining a veil of secrecy around the project since her departure from OpenAI in September. However, insider sources have revealed that Murati has also brought on board other former OpenAI employees, including Christian Gibson from OpenAI’s supercomputing team.

Reports suggest that Murati was in discussions to secure funding exceeding $100 million for her new venture back in October.

Known for his contributions to ChatGPT, Schulman left OpenAI in August to join Anthropic. In a post on X, he explained that his decision was driven by a desire to delve deeper into AI alignment, the critical aspect of ensuring AI systems function as intended, and to engage more actively in technical endeavors.
