According to a spokesperson from Maritime NZ Rescue Coordination Centre, two climbers were in distress after a personal locator beacon was activated at 3.25pm.
One of the climbers was unable to walk due to injuries sustained from a fall. In response, a Lakes District Air Rescue Trust helicopter from Queenstown and a helicopter from Aspiring Helicopters with the Wānaka Alpine Cliff Rescue (ACR) team onboard were dispatched to the scene.
The rescue helicopter arrived first and located both climbers. Fortunately, it was determined that a complex alpine rescue was not necessary, so the second helicopter with the cliff rescue team was called off.
One of the climbers received treatment at the scene and was able to continue their climb, while the other climber was hoisted onto the rescue helicopter and transported to Lakes District Hospital with minor injuries, as stated by the spokesperson.
