A dramatic rescue mission is currently underway in St Clair, as emergency services work to save a person who found themselves stranded on a cliff while attempting to rescue a dog.
A specialized rescue team from Fire and Emergency New Zealand in Dunedin Central is leading the operation, supported by fire crews from St Kilda and Willowbank, as well as police, search and rescue teams, Hato Hone St John, and the rescue helicopter on Cliffs Rd.
According to a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson, the individual got stuck on the cliff around 5.45pm while trying to save the dog. The location of the incident is Cliffs Rd, situated between Norfolk Street and Lyders Road.
Authorities, including police, search and rescue teams, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and the rescue helicopter, are all actively involved in the rescue effort. The person is currently safe on a ledge and not at risk of falling, but unable to climb back up.
