A fire broke out at a restaurant in Canterbury on Monday night due to a deep fryer.
Firefighters from Lincoln, Rolleston, and Wigram responded to the incident at We Cook on Vernon Drive in Lincoln at 8.30pm.
The fire was quickly put out in the kitchen by the firefighters.
However, they had to stay on-site for an additional two hours to allow the fryer’s oil to cool down from 350 deg C to 50 deg C.
Richie Bee, the chief of the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Brigade, mentioned that the fire was contained to the kitchen area and did not cause any damage to the Asian fusion restaurant or nearby establishments.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The power supply to the block of shops was turned off while the emergency crews dealt with the situation.
