Bruce Springsteen Criticizes Trump at European Tour Kickoff
In May, Bruce Springsteen, known for his outspoken criticism of President Trump, made a bold statement at the start of his 2025 European tour.
During the opening night in Manchester, England, the 75-year-old rock legend took the opportunity to address the current political climate in the United States. He began his performance with the song “Land of Hope and Dreams,” declaring, “The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to harness the power of art, music, and rock ‘n roll in these tumultuous times.”
“In my beloved America, the nation I cherish and have sung about, which has stood as a beacon of hope and freedom for two and a half centuries, is now under the control of a corrupt, inept, and treacherous administration,” Springsteen continued, drawing applause from the audience.
Meanwhile, back in the U.S., President Trump responded to Springsteen’s comments by labeling the “Born in the U.S.A.” singer as a “pushy and obnoxious individual.”
While Springsteen enjoys the freedom to express his opinions without fear of retaliation, many smaller musical acts and bands around the globe are apprehensive about criticizing the president, wary of provoking his sensitive temperament.
