Morris Love (Chicago Police Department)

Chicago police reported that a convicted felon was stopped by witnesses after he attacked and sexually assaulted a woman on a CTA bus on the Near West Side this week. Morris Love, 36, is set to attend a detention hearing on Sunday afternoon in relation to the incident.

According to police, around 6 p.m. on Thursday, a 35-year-old woman was on a bus in the 1700 block of West Roosevelt Road when Love sat beside her. Feeling uneasy, she attempted to move away, but Love allegedly restrained and sexually assaulted her on the bus. Witnesses intervened, helping to free her from Love’s grip, police stated.

After leaving the bus, Love reportedly pursued the woman, stole her belongings, and attempted to seize her again, police said. She managed to escape. Police were provided with a description of Love by witnesses, which led patrol officers to locate him nearby. The investigation was supported by CTA surveillance footage and statements from the victim and witnesses, according to police.

Love faces charges including two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, aggravated battery of a transit passenger, robbery, and aggravated unlawful restraint. Court documents reveal he was sentenced to four years in 2024 for a robbery and battery incident on the CTA, and three years in 2022 for assaulting a peace officer.
