Woman Suffers Graze Wound in Rideshare Shooting in Lakeview
CHICAGO — A rideshare passenger suffered a graze wound to her forehead overnight in Lakeview.
The 25-year-old woman is going to be OK following the incident, which occurred at the intersection of Belmont and Sheffield around 2:04 a.m.
According to police reports, the woman was riding in a car when she “heard shots, felt pain, and realized she had a gunshot graze wound to the forehead.”
A witness at the scene mentioned that someone in a dark vehicle may have fired the shots, but no further details about the gunman or the vehicle were disclosed.
Upon investigation, authorities discovered six shell casings at the scene. The rideshare driver’s vehicle was also struck by bullets during the incident.
Previous Incidents in Lakeview
The woman is the eighth person shot in Lakeview this year. However, three of those victims are people who were shot elsewhere and refused to disclose the location of the shooting to the police after seeking treatment at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Consequently, the hospital is listed as the “location” of the shooting by the city.
Comparatively, Lakeview had six shooting victims by this time last year and 13 by the same date in 2022.
Recent incidents in the area include a man being shot during a fight in the Boystown nightlife district and a restaurant employee being fatally shot on his way home from work.
Legal Action Taken
Notably, the only individual charged in connection with a shooting in Lakeview over the past two years is Raphael Hammond, 37. Hammond faces federal firearms charges for discharging a pistol during a shootout that resulted in injuries to two individuals near Wrigley Field.
Federal authorities confirmed that Hammond was the intended target of the shooting but managed to escape unharmed.
Despite these incidents, authorities are actively investigating the recent rideshare shooting to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the Lakeview area.
