Tim Baltz Shows Off Surprising Pole Dancing Skills in Final Season of “The Righteous Gemstones”
Tim Baltz has unveiled a new talent for the upcoming fourth and final season of “The Righteous Gemstones.” Viewers can anticipate seeing Baltz’s character BJ, husband of Judy Gemstone, flaunting his pole dancing hobby in the latest season, set to premiere on Sunday.
Baltz revealed that he performed most of his own stunts on the pole during filming. In an interview with Variety at the show’s premiere in Los Angeles, he shared details about his rigorous training regimen for the role.
“I would go to pole dancing classes about three times a week, training for around two-and-a-half hours each session,” Baltz explained. “Once I mastered the routine, I increased my frequency to every other day, practicing for an hour each time.”
Baltz received training from Tanya Christopher, the president of the U.S. Aerial Federation, an organization advocating for the inclusion of pole dancing in the Olympics. “I was fortunate to be trained by someone who could be an Olympic coach if pole dancing were to become an Olympic sport,” Baltz noted.
Prior to his pole dancing lessons, executive producer and director David Gordon Green advised Baltz to start Pilates to build core strength for the demanding physical requirements of the role.
His dedication and skill impressed co-star Edi Patterson, who plays Judy Gemstone. “I’m amazed by what Tim was able to achieve with his pole dancing abilities,” Patterson expressed to Variety.
While Patterson also took some pole dancing lessons for a different storyline that was ultimately scrapped, she admitted finding the experience challenging and painful. She joked, “Honestly, I was relieved when the storyline changed.”
Baltz emphasized that BJ’s pole dancing in the show reflects his character’s unique qualities. “He’s showcasing his elegance and power, embodying a masculinity that is defined by loyalty and unwavering devotion to his wife through thick and thin,” Baltz explained.
