Republican National Committee Sues Georgia Counties Over Alleged Ballot Irregularities
The Republican National Committee has taken legal action against several Georgia counties, alleging that they accepted ballots over the weekend without allowing Republican poll watchers to observe the process.
RNC Chairman Michael Whatley expressed his concerns on social media, stating, “Democrat officials in Georgia are playing fast and loose with election law. Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, and Gwinnett counties decided at the last minute to accept ballots over the weekend – which disregards the law. They have also failed to let our poll observers in to watch the process. The Secretary of State has issued guidance to allow Republican poll watchers in but local officials REFUSE.”
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger clarified the situation, stating that counties can receive absentee ballots as long as it is done within the confines of the law. “Under state law, election officials can receive absentee ballots in person at government facilities if the county chooses. Several counties have chosen to do this. We are working with the counties and the political parties to ensure this is done transparently and within Georgia law,” he explained.
Whatley emphasized the importance of fair and transparent elections, stating, “Georgia voters demand that the state and courts ensure that these reckless counties administer fair, transparent, and secure elections. Anything less undermines public trust.”
It remains to be seen how this legal challenge will unfold and what impact it will have on the ongoing election process in Georgia.
