Rob Lowe is poised to headline a new drama series focused on the Secret Service detail of the U.S. president, which is currently under development at NBC.
The show, titled “The Detail,” will depict the lives of elite agents tasked with protecting the president as they navigate the challenges of balancing personal lives with their critical responsibilities of national security and countering emerging threats, according to the official synopsis.
Jennifer Yee McDevitt, known for her work on “Over the Moon,” “Goodbye Vitamin,” and “Task Force Two,” is the creator and executive producer of the series, which will be produced by UTV, a subsidiary of Universal Studio Group. In addition to his acting role, Lowe will also take on the position of executive producer.
Should “The Detail” receive a series order, it would mark Lowe’s comeback to scripted broadcast television following his five-season tenure as the leading star of Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which wrapped up in February. Specifically at NBC, this would be Lowe’s first role as a series regular on the network since the hit show “Parks and Recreation,” and his first drama series on NBC since Aaron Sorkin’s iconic “The West Wing.”
Aside from “The Detail” at NBC, Lowe is also working on a sitcom titled “The Ram” at ABC. This project is described as a workplace romantic comedy where Lowe portrays a sports talk show host who finds romance with the new producer brought in to elevate his show’s ratings.
Presently, Lowe is the host and producer of the Fox game show “The Floor” and is currently leading the fourth season of his successful podcast, “Literally! With Rob Lowe.” Upcoming projects for Lowe include a role in the horror film “The Third Parent,” where he stars alongside Crispin Glover, and he also serves as a producer for the project. Furthermore, he has just completed filming for the indie dark comedy “The Musical,” featuring Tony Award winner Will Brill and Gillian Jacobs.
Lowe is represented by WME, Brillstein, and Latham & Watkins.
McDevitt is represented by Rise Management and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Feldman, Rogal, Shikora & Clark.
