Construction Contractors Targeted by Robbery Crew in Lincoln Park and Logan Square
Recent reports from the Chicago Police Department indicate that construction contractors have been targeted by a robbery crew in two separate incidents this week, one in Lincoln Park and another in Logan Square.
On Monday around 11:15 a.m., two masked individuals approached a work crew in the 1600 block of North La Salle, near The Moody Church. The suspects, brandishing a firearm, proceeded to steal wallets from two construction workers as well as tools from their truck. A cellphone left at the scene by one of the robbers may provide valuable evidence for the police investigation.
Witnesses reported that the suspects fled north on La Salle. Descriptions provided indicated that the perpetrators were Black men wearing black hoodies and driving a black vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet, with its license plate obscured.
The following day at approximately 1:45 p.m., another robbery took place in the 1800 block of North Whipple. Two men dressed in black exited a gray Mercedes and targeted a plumber’s truck. When the plumber attempted to intervene, the suspects physically assaulted him.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with either of these incidents.
It is worth noting that certain robbery crews specialize in targeting construction workers. Last year, a community alert was issued by the police regarding one such group. Additionally, a man was recently charged with robbing a construction crew at gunpoint, a crime that authorities have linked to nine similar incidents at construction sites earlier this year.
