Police Investigate Violent Robberies Along Chicago’s Red Line

Authorities in Chicago are currently investigating a series of violent robberies that took place on the Red Line between Howard and the Loop last night. Multiple victims have reported being attacked and robbed by a group of five to seven individuals while traveling on southbound trains.

The first incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when a man was targeted by the group and forced off the train at a station north of Uptown. The victim stated that he was punched multiple times in the face by five or six individuals wearing hoodies, who then stole his phone, glasses, and AirPod case.

Shortly after, another man reported a similar robbery at the Sheridan Red Line station. He indicated that he boarded the train at Howard and was attacked by five to seven individuals between Wilson and Sheridan. The group assaulted him, stole his phone, accessed his backpack, and took his bank cards. Fortunately, he did not require medical attention.

Another robbery was reported at the Clark-Division stop after midnight, where a victim lost his Apple Watch and iPhone to the assailants. Additionally, around 12:45 a.m., a man informed police that he had been attacked by a group of individuals at the Jackson station.

Authorities have provided descriptions of five suspects based on CTA surveillance footage:

  • A Black male wearing an orange hoodie
  • A Hispanic male wearing a black shirt and dark jeans
  • A Black male wearing a red hoodie, jeans, and black and white shoes
  • A Black male wearing a white and black jacket with gray pants
  • A Black female wearing black leggings, a gray sweatshirt, and black and white shoes
