Rocket Lab Secures $816 Million Contract with U.S. Space Development Agency
Rocket Lab has recently announced its largest contract to date, winning an $816 million deal with the U.S. Space Development Agency. This marks a significant milestone for the company as it continues to diversify its offerings beyond just being a “rocket company.”
The contract was awarded to Rocket Lab USA, a subsidiary of Rocket Lab, by the Space Development Agency (SDA). The company will be responsible for designing and manufacturing 18 satellites equipped with advanced missile warning, tracking, and defense sensors for the agency’s Tracking Layer Tranche 3 program.
This latest contract is in addition to an existing $515 million award for delivering satellites for the SDA’s Transport Layer-Beta Tranche 2 program. The goal of this program is to establish a satellite communications network in low Earth orbit that can securely transmit data to the military with minimal latency.
With these new contracts, Rocket Lab now has SDA agreements worth over $1.3 billion in total. The company has been actively expanding into the defense sector and has expressed interest in bidding for major Department of Defense initiatives like Golden Dome.
