where a woman was shot on July 7, 2026. (SubxNews)
A shootout between two vehicles left a woman critically injured at a CTA bus stop in Englewood on Tuesday night, according to Chicago police. However, a witness provided a vastly different account of the incident.
The woman was sitting in the 800 block of West 59th Street shortly before 10 p.m. when two dark-colored cars drove by, and passengers in both vehicles began exchanging gunfire, according to a statement from CPD. She was struck in the chest and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.
Although the woman was at a CTA bus stop, CPD did not confirm she was waiting for a bus.
While police reported that the woman was hit amid crossfire, shell casings were found primarily in front of the bus shelter where she was shot. A witness informed police and a 911 dispatcher that a blue sedan with three occupants pulled up, and a passenger in the back seat fired at the woman before the car sped away.
Detectives are currently working to piece together the events leading to the shooting.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.
Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
