Ryan Murphy and FX are currently in the early stages of developing a television series based on Bret Easton Ellis’ upcoming book, “The Shards.” The project has already attracted Kaia Gerber to star in the series, with Max Winkler on board to direct.

“The Shards” is a horror novel set in 1980s Los Angeles, focusing on a fictional serial killer while incorporating elements of Ellis’ own life. The story follows 17-year-old Bret, a senior at an exclusive prep school, who becomes obsessed with a new student named Robert Mallory. As Bret and his friends become entangled in Mallory’s mysterious past, they also find themselves targeted by a serial killer known as the Trawler. The novel promises a gripping narrative filled with suspense and horror.

Bret Easton Ellis is renowned for his previous works such as “American Psycho” and “Less than Zero.” With a knack for crafting compelling stories that delve into dark themes, Ellis is sure to deliver another captivating tale with “The Shards.”

Kaia Gerber, who has previously collaborated with Ryan Murphy on projects like “American Horror Story” and “American Horror Stories,” is set to take on a leading role in the series. Known for her versatility as an actress, Gerber’s involvement adds a layer of intrigue to the upcoming adaptation.

Max Winkler, another familiar face in the Murphyverse, will be helming the directorial duties for “The Shards.” With a track record of working on successful projects like “American Horror Story” and “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” Winkler’s vision is sure to bring Ellis’ novel to life on screen.

If given the green light, “The Shards” will join a lineup of exciting projects under Ryan Murphy’s overall deal with Disney. With upcoming shows like “All’s Fair” and “9-1-1 Nashville” set to premiere on Hulu and ABC, respectively, Murphy continues to push boundaries with his storytelling. Additionally, FX viewers can look forward to future series like “The Beauty” and “American Love Story,” showcasing Murphy’s diverse range as a creator.
