Sara Burack, a successful real estate agent who sold luxury homes to the wealthiest buyers in the Hamptons and appeared on the Netflix reality show “Million Dollar Beach House,” tragically passed away last week in a fatal hit-and-run incident. Despite her professional success, sources close to her revealed that she was “homeless by choice” and struggling with mental health issues at the time of her death, despite the unwavering support of her family.
Described as a savvy and hardworking businesswoman by her close friend and former boyfriend, Mike White, Burack’s work ethic may have contributed to a dangerous reliance on pills, particularly Adderall, to stay awake and keep working long hours. This habit of overworking and the use of stimulants may have taken a toll on her well-being.
The circumstances surrounding Burack’s death remain unclear, as she was found unconscious on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays in the middle of the night after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident. The driver, Amanda Kempton, was later charged with leaving the scene of the accident and is facing legal consequences.
Despite the outpouring of support from her family and friends, Burack was reportedly living in bank foyers and had sold her car and condo, choosing to be without a permanent residence. Her family made efforts to provide her with housing, but she refused, citing concerns about government surveillance.
White, who was by Burack’s side in the hospital, recalled her increasing paranoia and reclusive behavior in the months leading up to her death. She was involved in a commission dispute with her employer, Nest Seekers, and Douglas Elliman, which added to her stress and anxiety.
Burack’s mental health struggles became more apparent as she became suspicious of her colleagues and believed that people were plotting against her. She spent hours at the library researching without a clear purpose, indicating a decline in her mental well-being.
Efforts were made to get Burack into rehab and provide her with the help she needed, but ultimately, the tragedy unfolded with her untimely death. White and others close to Burack lamented the lack of intervention and support that could have potentially prevented the devastating outcome.
Reflecting on her life, White emphasized that Burack had everything she needed to thrive, but once things started going downhill, her support system seemed to fade away. The loss of Sara Burack serves as a stark reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the need for a strong support network for those struggling with mental health issues.
