A site reflecting the unpredictability of nature

FOX News reports:

Tragic loss: Young hunters in Colorado succumb to lightning strike, coroner confirms

In a devastating turn of events, a lightning strike has been identified as the initial cause of death for two hunters discovered deceased in Colorado’s wilderness.

According to Conejos County Coroner Richard Martin, the nature of their deaths was alarmingly swift. “The kind of death is just instant,” he elaborated to The Colorado Sun. “It’s like you’re alive one moment, and the next—you’re not. Just like that. A split second.”

The two victims, both aged 25, were located beneath a tree, with observable burns on their bodies.

Initially reported missing on September 13, the pair had last communicated with their families on September 11. Deputies revealed that Andrew Porter from Asheville, North Carolina, and Ian Stasko from Salt Lake City, Utah, were overdue while engaging in elk hunting. Their satellite communication device, according to Porter’s aunt, Lynne Runkle, was unfortunately “not functioning.”

It serves as a haunting reminder that no amount of preparation can shield us from the unpredictability of nature. Our thoughts go out to their mourning families and friends.
