The SAG-AFTRA Foundation is hosting a unique fundraiser for actors to support its 40th-anniversary celebration. The event, titled “The Actors Auction,” will take place on May 3-4 at SAG-AFTRA’s headquarters in Los Angeles. Actors are encouraged to bring their industry-related memorabilia and heirlooms for appraisal by Heritage Auctions.
Heritage Auctions will provide experienced appraisers to evaluate items such as onscreen wardrobe and props, luxury handbags, vintage posters, rare books, trading cards, autographs, fine and decorative arts, manuscripts, photography, animation, and more. Actors have the option to auction off their items, with all proceeds going towards supporting the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
Executive VP of Heritage Auctions, Joe Maddalena, expressed excitement about the event, comparing it to the popular show “Antiques Roadshow” in uncovering hidden treasures within Hollywood. The auction aims to reveal the value of film memorabilia and collectibles that may have been tucked away in closets and storage units.
The SAG-AFTRA Foundation is dedicated to assisting union members in need, providing emergency financial assistance, career-building programs, and professional resources. Chairman Courtney B. Vance emphasized the importance of supporting artists at every stage of their journey, highlighting the Foundation’s commitment to uplifting performers in times of crisis and beyond.
The “Actors Auction” is a creative way for actors to contribute to the Foundation’s mission while discovering the value of their own memorabilia. By participating in this event, actors can not only showcase their industry-related treasures but also support a vital safety net for performers in the entertainment industry.
