Sam Asghari has conveyed a heartfelt message to his former spouse, Britney Spears, in response to the kind words she recently shared on social media regarding their brief marriage.
“Distraction is often a tremendous compliment. This upcoming initiative, the MISTR Campaign, is just that — a significant and notable distraction,” Asghari, 31, told Us Weekly while attending the Blue Carpet Countdown for the First National prEP Day by MISTR on Thursday, October 9.
“We can channel distractions into something great,” he stated. “So that’s definitely a positive for me.”
The two were married from June 9, 2022, until their separation on July 20, 2023. They first crossed paths in October 2016 while filming Spears’ “Slumber Party” music video. Their relationship went public on Instagram in January 2017 when Spears posted a dinner photo with Asghari during New Year’s Eve. They got engaged in September 2021 after nearly five years of dating.
Their divorce was officially concluded in May 2024. In an Instagram post from August, Spears remarked that their union had felt like a “phony distraction” that helped her cope while being “cut off” from her kids, Jayden James and Sean Preston.
Following the divorce, Spears has been working to mend her relationship with her sons, three years after experiencing estrangement from Jayden, 19, and Preston, 20, which Us reported in September.
“The most difficult years of my life were marked by my sons being absent for three years. I was barred from reaching out … my secret to survival was denial and countless tears,” Spears expressed in part in her August Instagram post.
Asghari expressed his hopes for Spears’ future.
“I wish her all the happiness in the world,” Asghari stated. “As I’ve said before, I cherish our past, which is a significant part of my life, so my hope is everything goes well for her.”
Asghari also mentioned to Us that leveraging his platform to support charitable efforts is incredibly significant to him, which is why he has partnered with MISTR for an upcoming initiative.
“I feel a sense of responsibility to give back to the community that has given me so much,” Asghari shared. “In reality, I rely on the community far more than they rely on me. Teaming up with MISTR, an organization that’s already making strides in raising awareness, is a wonderful opportunity. So we have a major, bold, and exciting campaign releasing soon — look out for it in the next 10 or 15 days!”
Currently, Asghari is in a relationship with real estate agent Brooke Irvine, a romance he confirmed on Instagram in January, though they had been seen together since November 2024. He expressed to Us that their bond has been going remarkably well.
In April, he previously mentioned that their relationship is not about the entertainment industry or Hollywood, but rather about what truly matters: being present, cherishing the moment, and supporting one another in their journeys.
