Samsung Introduces Galaxy Watch for Kids Mode
Samsung has recently unveiled a new mode for the Galaxy Watch 7, designed to cater to younger users. The Galaxy Watch for Kids experience was announced at Samsung’s Unpacked event, offering parents the ability to customize the smartwatch for their children.
This new feature allows parents to set up the Galaxy Watch 7 with child-friendly settings, such as sharing location information and activating a Do Not Disturb mode during specific times, like homework or class hours. Samsung has collaborated with Google for this feature, utilizing the Google Family Link app to manage restrictions and parameters.
It’s important to note that the Galaxy Watch for Kids experience is compatible only with the LTE version of the Galaxy Watch 7. Once paired with an adult’s smartphone and activated with a SIM card, the smartwatch can operate independently without the need for a smartphone.

In addition to the location sharing and Do Not Disturb mode, parents can manage contacts stored on the watch for calling or messaging. The smartwatch also features an SOS message function, allowing children to send an emergency message to a pre-approved contact by pressing the side button five times.
Samsung offers a range of new watch faces and straps to enhance the watch’s appearance and appeal to children. The Galaxy Watch for Kids provides access to over 20 ‘teacher-approved’ apps and watch faces from popular brands like Marvel, Barbie, and Crayola. Parents have the authority to approve any additional apps downloaded on the watch.
The rollout of the Galaxy Watch for Kids experience has already commenced in the US, with Galaxy Watch 7 LTE models supporting the feature available through Samsung, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T. This offering follows Apple’s Family Setup, now known as Apple Watch For Your Kids, introduced with watchOS 7 in 2020.
Although the Galaxy Watch for Kids mode is not compatible with the more affordable Galaxy Watch FE due to its lack of LTE connectivity, it provides Android users with a reputable smartwatch option tailored for younger users. As Samsung continues to expand its offerings, parents now have the choice of selecting a smartwatch from a leading brand that meets their children’s needs.
