Samsung has quietly launched the Galaxy A16 5G, a budget phone that has appeared on the company’s French and Dutch websites without any official announcement. Building on the success of the Galaxy A15 5G and A15 (4G), the Galaxy A16 5G is set to continue the trend of offering solid features at an affordable price.
The release date of the Samsung Galaxy A16 is not yet confirmed, but it is expected to start shipping by the end of October 2024, according to reports from SamMobile. The phone is likely to be rolled out to different markets gradually, with Europe being the first to receive it. However, there is no word on when it will be available in the UK and US. Samsung has also introduced a 4G LTE version of the Galaxy A16 in France, although it is not currently available for purchase.
In terms of pricing, the Galaxy A16 5G is expected to retail for €229 in the Netherlands and €249 in France. This represents a slight increase from the previous model, the Galaxy A15 5G. The 4G variant of the Galaxy A16 is rumored to be priced at €209.90. Both models will come with 128GB of storage, with the 4GB RAM variant paired with the 128GB model and the 8GB RAM variant paired with the 256GB model.
The Galaxy A16 5G features a sleek design, measuring just 7.9mm thick and available in multiple colors. It boasts an IP54 rating for protection against dust and water splashes. The phone’s display has been upgraded to a larger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate for vibrant visuals and smooth scrolling.
Under the hood, the Galaxy A16 5G is powered by either the Exynos 1330 chipset in Europe or the Dimensity 6300 chipset in other regions. Both versions come with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, expandable up to 1.5TB via a Micro-SD card. The phone is expected to offer improved performance over its predecessor, making it suitable for everyday tasks and moderate gaming.
The camera setup on the Galaxy A16 5G includes a 50MP main camera, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro lens on the rear, along with a 13MP selfie camera on the front. The phone is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging. It will come with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 out of the box, with a promise of six years of Android updates and security patches.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G offers a compelling package of features and specifications for a budget-friendly price. With its sleek design, upgraded display, enhanced performance, versatile camera system, and extended software support, the Galaxy A16 5G is poised to be a competitive option in the budget smartphone market.
