Samsung has officially announced that they will no longer be providing any further software or security updates for the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra models. This decision leaves these former flagship devices vulnerable to potential security threats and risks.

While there is a slight possibility that Samsung may release out-of-cycle security updates for these models in case of urgent vulnerabilities, it is not guaranteed. The Galaxy S21 series was released in 2021 and received its final security updates in November 2025, bringing them up to One UI 7.0 based on Android 15.

Samsung had promised four major Android updates for the S21 series, delivering on their commitment from Android 12 to Android 15 along with their customised user interface.

For users who currently own a Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, or Galaxy S21 Ultra, it is highly recommended to consider upgrading to a newer smartphone that is still supported by Samsung’s update policy. Without regular security updates, these devices are at a higher risk of being targeted by hackers, malware, and data theft.

If you are looking for recommendations on the best smartphones available, you can explore a variety of options from our round-up of tested devices, including top overall picks, mid-range options, and budget-friendly choices. Additionally, you can refer to our best Samsung Galaxy chart to find the ideal model for your needs or wait for the upcoming release of the Galaxy S26.

On the other hand, if you own a Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, you are in luck as it is still receiving quarterly updates, making it an exception to the discontinued support for the S21 series.

Moving forward, Samsung has also announced a change in their update schedule for the Galaxy S22 generation. The Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra will now receive quarterly updates instead of monthly ones. This adjustment is part of Samsung’s strategy to streamline their update process and ensure ongoing support for a wide range of devices.

To stay informed about which Samsung models will continue to receive monthly updates and which ones will transition to quarterly updates, you can refer to Samsung’s official list of supported devices. The company is committed to providing updates for newer devices for up to seven years, starting from January 2024.

In conclusion, if you own a Samsung Galaxy S21, it is time to start thinking about upgrading to a more secure device. With Samsung discontinuing support for these models, it is essential to prioritize the security and protection of your personal data. Consider exploring the latest smartphone options available and make an informed decision to safeguard your digital assets.
