Sandy Wernick, Talent Manager and Brillstein Entertainment Partners Executive, Passes Away at 86

Sanford “Sandy” Wernick, a legendary talent manager known for representing top clients like Adam Sandler, has sadly passed away at the age of 86 in Rancho Mirage, California.

Wernick’s career highlights include discovering Adam Sandler when he was just 22 years old, before Sandler’s rise to fame on “Saturday Night Live.” Sandler’s Netflix movie “Sandy Wexler” was a tribute to Wernick’s expertise as a dealmaker in the entertainment industry.

As a partner and senior executive VP at Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Wernick was involved in personal management, packaging for TV and motion pictures, and producing. His journey in the industry began as an agent, working his way up from the MCA mailroom to VP of the TV division at ICM.

Throughout his career, Wernick co-created and executive produced “Def Comedy Jam” and played a crucial role in packaging and producing shows like “Saturday Night Live,” “The Sopranos,” and “The Muppet Show.” He also served as executive producer on hit films such as “Happy Gilmore” and “The Wedding Singer.”

Wernick’s roster of clients included a wide range of talents in the industry, from actors and writers to producers and directors. Some notable names he represented include Tim Herlihy, Rob Schneider, and Peter Falk.

Apart from his professional endeavors, Wernick also dedicated his time to teaching as an Adjunct Professor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and volunteering in the Cedars Sinai Emergency Room.

Born in the Bronx, Wernick was a proud NYU graduate and served in the Army from 1960 to 1962. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara, as well as his children and grandchildren.

Private services will be held in Palm Desert, with a memorial planned for Los Angeles at a later date to honor Wernick’s impactful career and legacy in the entertainment industry.
