The acclaimed director made the announcement on March 31 during CinemaCon, appearing in the latter part of Sony Pictures’ presentation to unveil additional information. The summary for the quartet of films states: âEvery man has a distinct tale, but together they are monumental.â These films will explore the lives of the band members through their individual perspectives. The precise scheduling for the film releases hasn’t been disclosed yet, but all four are slated for theatrical release in April 2028, which the director touts as the first âbingeable moment in cinema.â (Think Barbenheimer amplified.)
The screenwriting duties are in the capable hands of three seasoned writersâTony Award recipient Jez Butterworth; Peter Straughan, who recently won an Oscar for Conclave; and double Emmy laureate Jack Thorne from Adolescenceâthough it remains uncertain which film each will be responsible for.
Referring to the Beatles as âthe most consequential band ever,â one that âtransformed culture and left a lasting impact,â Mendes expressed that he had âlong sought to create a filmâ but had initially conceded as he felt the ânarrative was too expansive for a singular filmâ and that a TV series wasn’t the right fit either. âThere has to be a method to present this epic story for a modern audience,â he elaborated. âI can guarantee there’s still a wealth of material to delve into, and I believe we’ve discovered a way to accomplish that.â
In further developments, per Deadline, acclaimed actress Saoirse Ronan, a four-time Oscar nominee, will portray Linda McCartney, Paulâs first spouse. It can be anticipated that the notable photographer and musician, who wed the Beatle in 1969, will have a significant role in the Paul-centric film, though her involvement in the other three films is still under wraps. Stay tuned for additional updates.
