Sarah Sherman has officially announced her debut comedy special, which will be available on HBO.
The special is titled after her outrageous alter ego, “Sarah Squirm: Live + In the Flesh,” and is set to premiere on the network and HBO Max this coming December.
In this highly anticipated special, the “Saturday Night Live” star is ready to shock and entertain as she “rips off the straitjacket, unleashing a festering hour of bodily fluids, open-wound confessionals, and jokes that will leave skid marks on your soul,” according to HBO’s description.
Sherman has a word of caution for viewers: “Word to the wise – don’t watch while eating.”
This Saturday marks the beginning of Sherman’s fifth season on “SNL,” where she has garnered attention for her quirky sketches and memorable “Weekend Update” segments. Earlier this year, she appeared in Adam Sandler’s film “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,” and is slated to star in the upcoming Netflix film produced by Sandler, titled “Roommates.” Recently, she opened for Sandler during a performance at Madison Square Garden and is known for her acclaimed live show “Helltrap Nightmare.”
“If a special could feel like plugging directly into a live wire – this is definitely it! Sarah’s first special is so distinctly her own. She’s hysterically funny, wildly creative, and has a kind of fearless audacity that makes this special truly unforgettable,” expressed Nina Rosenstein, EVP of HBO programming for late night and specials.
“Sarah Squirm: Live + In the Flesh” is executive produced by Sherman in collaboration with “SNL” showrunner Lorne Michaels, Hilary Marx, and Taylor Segal from Broadway Video, along with Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush, and Josh Safdie from Central; Matthew Vaughan for Rotten Science; and Jack Bensinger. The special is directed by Cody Critcheloe, who is also known for his music project Ssion.
