Kelly Clarkson Threatens to Take Over Today Show from Guthrie and Hager
Sources within NBC have expressed disappointment over a decline in viewership since Hoda Kotb’s departure from the Today Show. An insider revealed that despite Savannah Guthrie and Jenna Hager being given prominent roles on the show, they have failed to attract the same level of viewership as Kotb did.
Rumors have been circulating about American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson potentially joining the Today Show after taking a break from her self-titled talk show. NBC executives were concerned about losing Jenna Hager, who now co-hosts the fourth hour of the show as “Today with Jenna & Friends.”
“Although Kelly Clarkson’s show has seen a decline in ratings, NBC still views her as a valuable asset and believes that she could help boost the viewership of the Today Show,” a source shared. “NBC is hoping that Clarkson will attract new viewers and help the show surpass its competitors, Good Morning America and CBS Mornings.”
Jenna Hager has been hosting the show with various celebrity guests since Kotb’s departure, including Scarlett Johansson and Eva Longoria. However, NBC is reportedly looking for a permanent replacement for Kotb, with Kelly Clarkson being their top choice.
