Scarlett Johansson Claps Back at Michael Che on “Saturday Night Live”
Scarlett Johansson made headlines this past weekend as she hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the seventh time, alongside musical guest Bad Bunny. However, it was her response to Michael Che’s jokes on the show that stole the spotlight.
Che, who co-anchors the “Weekend Update” segment on SNL, is known for writing jokes that sometimes poke fun at Johansson, who is married to Colin Jost, Che’s co-anchor. One joke in particular referenced Johansson’s recent pregnancy, with Jost quipping, “I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”
During the season finale, Che and Jost invited Johansson to the “Weekend Update” desk to formally apologize for the roast beef joke. Che, speaking on behalf of Jost, admitted that his jokes were a result of jealousy and even made self-deprecating remarks about his own experiences.
Johansson, in response to the jokes, told Vanity Fair that she felt like she was dealing with “seventh-, eighth-grade boys” and hinted at a possible retaliation. She mentioned that others on the show might support her desire to clap back at Che.
With this latest hosting gig, Johansson has now broken the record for the most “SNL” episodes hosted by a woman, surpassing Tina Fey and Drew Barrymore, who have each hosted six times.
