Scott Foley has been announced as the lead actor in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, “It’s Not Like That,” where he will portray the character of Malcolm, a modern-day minister. The show, produced by faith-based content studio Wonder Project, received a cast contingent series order from Prime Video in November, with Foley’s casting now lifting the contingency.
The premise of “It’s Not Like That” revolves around Lori, a recently divorced woman with two teenagers, and Malcolm, a widowed minister and father of three. Once close friends, they must now navigate the challenges of single parenthood and the complexities of Malcolm’s role as a modern-day minister. The series explores whether their relationship will evolve into a love story, posing the question, “Is this the beginning of a love story? It’s not like that. Or is it?”
The show is created by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, who will also serve as showrunners. Foley, along with Jon Erwin, Justin Rosenblatt, and Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten for Wonder Project, Alex Goldstone for 42 & Anonymous Content, and Kingdom Story Company, will executive produce the series. “It’s Not Like That” is a collaboration between Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios, with Justin Rosenblatt overseeing the project as Wonder Project’s head of global television.
Foley, known for his roles in Netflix’s “La Dolce Villa” and ABC’s “Will Trent,” is also set to return to the “Scream” franchise in its upcoming seventh installment. He is represented by Independent Artist Group, Atlas Artists, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Deitchman and Robinson, the creators of the series, are currently co-executive producers for “Off Campus,” another Amazon Prime Video series ordered to series in October. Their impressive credits include shows like “As We See It,” “Carnival Row,” and “Z: The Beginning of Everything” on Amazon, as well as “Ordinary Joe” and “Rise” on NBC, “Almost Family” on Fox, and “The Bold Type” on Freeform. They have also written for the popular NBC series “Parenthood” and the feature film “Life as We Know It.”
With an intriguing premise and a talented cast and crew, “It’s Not Like That” promises to be a compelling addition to the lineup of Amazon Prime Video original series. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new show!
