In a heartfelt statement, King expressed his realization while writing the last episode of the season that it was the perfect moment to bring the beloved series to a close. Collaborating with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey, the decision was made to conclude the show with a two-part finale. The original series order of 10 episodes was extended to 12 to allow for a proper send-off.
“We didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the enjoyment of watching the season,” King shared. “It’s been a wonderful journey, and we are incredibly grateful to all the viewers who have welcomed these characters into their homes and hearts over the years.”
