All Bets Are Off: Max Cancels “Bookie” After Two Seasons

Max has made the decision to cancel the comedy series “Bookie” after two seasons, as reported exclusively by Variety.

The show, created by Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay, starred Sebastian Maniscalco as a veteran bookmaker in Los Angeles who faces challenges due to the legalization of sports gambling and dealing with unpredictable clients. It premiered on the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer in November 2023 and aired its second season in December 2024.

A spokesperson for Max expressed gratitude for the comedic team behind “Bookie,” stating, “For two seasons creators Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay and their hilarious cast, led by Sebastian Maniscalco, made us laugh while pulling back the curtain on the world of sports betting. We won’t be moving forward with a third season, but we are grateful to have worked with such a brilliant team on this laugh out loud comedy.”

The ensemble cast of “Bookie” also included Omar Dorsey, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito, Jorge Garcia, Maxim Swinton, Rob Corddry, and Selina Kaye, with recurring appearances by Arnetia Walker, Toby Huss, and Dale Dickey. The show boasted an impressive list of guest stars like Ray Romano, Laraine Newman, Zach Braff, and Charlie Sheen throughout its 16-episode run.

Produced by Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television, “Bookie” had Lorre, Bakay, Maniscalco, and Judi Marmel serving as executive producers.

Sebastian Maniscalco, known for his successful stand-up comedy career, discussed his experience with acting on the show in an interview with Variety in December. He mentioned his enjoyment of making the creators laugh on set, as it validated his comedic skills. Maniscalco has also appeared in films such as “Green Book,” “The Irishman,” and “Tag,” as well as lending his voice to Spike in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
